Review: A Scandalous Proposal (The Little Season #2) by Kasey Michaels
Print Length: 384 pages
Publisher: HQN Books (March 29, 2016)
From Goodreads.com: Who would have thought a man could tire of being fawned over and flirted with? Ever since Cooper Townsend returned from France as a hero with a new title, he has been relentlessly pursued by every marriageable miss in London. Perhaps that's why the unconventional Miss Daniella Foster is so appealing. She doesn't simper or flatter. She only wants him to help unmask her sister's blackmailer, and Coop has never been so intrigued…
Let every other woman in London fight over His Lordship's romantic attentions. Marriage is the last thing on Dany's mind…at least until she samples his illicit kisses. Now, as a mutual enemy races to ruin Coop's reputation and Dany's family name, an engagement of convenience will spark an unlikely passion that might save them both.

Even though the actual events happen within only a few days time, the majority of this book does not feel rushed. What does feel a bit rushed is the romance between Coop and Dany - I never really enjoy books where the characters fall in love that quickly - however given the overall scope of this novel I am willing to overlook that. I think the mystery aspect of this novel (who is the blackmailer and why are they doing it) is a strong selling point. This was a story that kept me reading just to see what would happen next. I feel as though the author did a splendid job of balancing that delicate point between romance and mystery where one did not necessarily overshadow the other, and instead both aspects complimented each other into one satisfying read.
There were also several instances of witty and humorous dialogue where I feel the author did her characters a strong service by making them always ready with a witty remark or clever banter. As with some of the other romances I've read in the past, I did not find myself thinking that this story reminded me strongly of another - everything seemed not only fresh, but unique to this story and these characters.
I would highly recommend this novel to those who enjoy a good dose of mystery with their romances. I certainly plan on reading more of this author's work myself!
DISCLAIMER #1: This novel does include scenes of a sexual nature that occur before marriage. I mention this only because I know it is a complete turn off for some readers, and feel that they should be informed.
DISCLAIMER #2: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
