Book Tour & Review: The Bachelor Auction (The Bachelors of Arizona #1) by Rachel Van Dyken
Print Length: 352 pages
Publisher: Forever (October 4, 2016)
From Goodreads.com: Cinderella never had to deal with this crap.
Jane isn't entirely sure that Cinderella got such a raw deal. Sure, she had a rough start, but didn't she eventually land a prince and a happily-ever-after? Meanwhile, Jane is busy waiting on her demanding, entitled sisters, running her cleaning business, and . . . yep, not a prince in sight. Until a party and a broken shoe incident leave Jane wondering if princes---or at least, a certain deliciously hunky billionaire---maybe do exist.
Except Brock Wellington isn't anyone's dream guy. Hell, a prince would never agree to be auctioned off in marriage to the highest bidder. Or act like an arrogant jerk---even if it was just a façade. Now, as Brock is waiting for the auction chopping block, he figures it's karmic retribution that he's tempted by a sexy, sassy woman he can't have. But while they can't have a fairy-tale ending, maybe they can indulge in a little bit of fantasy . .

My Rating: 3 stars out of 5
I have so many conflicting emotions about this story. SO MANY YOU GUYS.
Typically - I rate everything by this author 5 stars because they are just that good. However - despite the good points - I feel this story fell a little flat.
Let me start off with the few points that made this story not a 5 star read for me. Brock was a big one. Understandably, he had a rough childhood and still bears the emotional scars from something that happened when he was 12. Even more understandably, being back in his childhood home is going to bring those memories, and the ghosts of his past to the forefront. However - that still does not give him the right to be as big of a jerk as he was to Jane. Some of the things he said and did (including one major thing right after the first time they slept together) were just unforgivable. Despite him being attractive and having a softer side, if I were Jane, I would have found it hard to look back his mood swings and the way he didn't hesitate to treat her poorly. That just seems emotional instability and NOT someone you would want a life with.
I also was turned off by the way Jane continued to take the verbal and emotional abuse not only from him, but from her sisters as well. Those two were just horribly over the top. They treated her like a servant (which was all the more evident by the way they treated her when she agreed to the job at the ranch in the first place). Despite her promise to her father to try and keep the family together - there was absolutely no reason for her to stay and subject herself to that kind of toxic behavior.
Aside from that - I ADORED Brock's brothers. They brought just the right amount of playboy humor to the story that you couldn't help but laugh when they were around. The barn animals also gave this story a comedic side (as well as making life at a ranch seem just a bit more realistic). And GRANDMA NADINE!! It was so great to see her make an appearance (and see that she is just as conniving a matchmaker as she always was).

Overall, I do believe that this book may still appeal those who enjoy romantic comedy with a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. I will definitely read more from this author!
