Review: Reckless by Priscilla West

From Goodreads.com: Everything about him warned me to stay away.

I’d seen bad boys before, but he had it all and more. The rippling muscles covered in tatts, the piercing eyes hiding dark secrets, the silky voice that could make a girl come with just a whisper . . .

He was exactly the type of guy that would get me in trouble, but when he jumped off the stage, inked skin glistening with sweat and breathed his seductive words into my ear, I couldn’t resist the temptation.

It was supposed to be the best one-night stand of my life, but fate didn’t let it play out that way. Things happened. I got upset. I got hasty. And worst of all, I got reckless.

After that disaster, I thought it was the last I’d see of him. But what I didn’t know was that I’d started something.

Something that could shatter the very thing I had worked so hard to protect.

I should have known back then that the most seductive things in life are also the most dangerous.

My Rating: 4 stars out of 5

I have had a lot of mixed feelings about this author. Her Surrender series irked me, I finished Wrecked with mostly good things to say about it, but I still hadn't decided if I really liked this author or not. As luck would have it, I still had one book to read....

AND IT WAS GREAT!

Ok... aside from the fact that instead of using the real names (TMZ, Lady Gaga, etc) she went with obvious things like GMZ, Lady Dada, Perry Hilton, etc. I don't have anything bad to say about this novel.

I was so happy to see Riley again (after meeting her in the Surrender series I was hoping she would get her own story). She is such a strong character (even with her weaknesses and demons), that I was really looking forward to seeing what would happen with her. I also enjoyed Jax - he was far from perfect by any standard - but he did his best to give Riley things she didn't even know she was missing.  Overall, this was a cute romance. Yes, there was explicit sexual encounters, but unlike some of the other books, those scenes didn't take away from the plot, or become too repetitive. In fact, there was a lot of sexual tension and refusals leading up to the actual sex that it felt like a natural progression instead of something that just happened to make a book "sexier".

The one thing I will say about this novel is that it IS the first book. And I'm not sure if I will be reading the second book or not simply because this one left me feeling satisfied, and I don't feel like I need closure or anything from it unlike some of her other novels. I will also say that there is a good possibility that once my TBR pile shrinks a bit, I may revisit them in the second book just to see how things do end up playing out.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
