Review: Demon Within by Rebecca Royce
From Goodreads.com Dakota Daniels is an exorcist. Or at least she used to be, until a demon destroyed her life, killing her mother and sending her into hiding. She never knows what’s around the next corner or whether she’ll live through the night.
Brady Knox, billionaire tech guru and media darling, is a man used to getting what he wants. Except when it comes to his sister Sydney. She is the secret he never tells a soul. After all, how do you tell the world your sister has been possessed since she was ten years old without seeming like a lunatic?
When Brady seeks out Dakota’s assistance, he expects to get it. When she doesn’t comply, he’s willing to use every resource at his disposal—even if that means seducing her into doing his bidding.
Dakota’s body yearns for Brady but she isn’t easily fooled, and if she decides to help him it will be on her own terms—assuming they can both make it through the night with their souls intact.

The premise of this book drew me in immediately - exorcisms are not something I typically read about. Coupled with the back history of Dakota's mother being killed by a demon, and what few details were given in the synopsis I felt I couldn't go wrong with this novel.
Unfortunately... after reading it, I am left feeling very disappointed.
Don't get me wrong - the premise is great, the writing is well executed and the characters are well written (what you really learn of them), but this novella (I literally read it in about an hour and a half) would have been better off as a full-length novel (or perhaps a series of novels). There is so much potential here that it seems the author barely scratches the surface.
In a nutshell (I'm intentionally leaving parts out as to not spoil the entire book) - Dakota meets Bradly, she turns down the offer to help him. Bradly turns up at Dakota's apartment with the intent of seducing her. She offers her help. They travel to Bradly's house, stuff happens. It was over that quick.
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of Demon Within in return for my honest review. This does not in any way reflect upon my review. All thoughts/opinions of this novel are 100% my own.
